LaVern Homan

Homan was born in Detroit, in 1955. She attended Wayne County Community College from 1980-1982 where she majored in interior design. She attended the Center for Creative Studies (CCS) from 1991-1993 and majored in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing. While enrolled at CCS, her emphasis was directed toward designing jewelry using alternative materials. She takes everyday objects such as eyeglass lenses, garden hose washers and washing machine lint, to name a few, and transforms them into pieces of jewelry. Homan’s jewelry represents a small facet of her work as an artist. She transforms everyday objects into pieces of artwork to give them new life. Homan’s work has been shown at galleries and shops throughout the Detroit metropolitan and suburban areas.
