Barbara Brown King

King started drawing at Wingart elementary school in Detroit. While at Northwestern High School in Detroit, King excelled in the arts and sports. After graduating from high school, King studied art at Miensinger Art School, the Detroit Institute of Arts and Wayne State University. In 1955 she relocated to Los Angeles and got a job with the LAPD, continuing to paint and take classes while working. King studied pictorial painting and other techniques at USC and UCLA. Upon her return to Detroit, King opened an art studio.
